It All Starts Here
While the need to share my words publicly has been bubbling up inside of me, I've had to do a lot of soul-searching in order to find my voice. I'm always learning, but I'm not an expert. I have opinions, but I hold many of them lightly. I have more questions than answers,
If you've ever made pancakes, you know that the first one is usually the worst. It can take a few tries to get the temperature and timing right, and in the meantime you have to get comfortable with failing on purpose. Writing the first post of a new blog happens to be a really similar process – there's no way to do it all perfectly, and sometimes the only option is to start now and learn along the way.
I've been writing for as long as I can remember, but much of that has been for other people – ghostwriting, creating website content, email sequences, and sales copy. I've tinkered with sharing my own work a few times along the way, but lack of clarity and confidence mixed with an abundance of fear and conflict-avoidance, meant that soon I'd choke on the words I wanted to write.
Over the past few months, however, it's become increasingly clear that writing isn't just a professional skill for me – it's a calling.
While the need to share my words publicly has been bubbling up inside of me, I've had to do a lot of soul-searching in order to find my voice. I'm always learning, but I'm not an expert. I have opinions, but I hold many of them lightly. I have more questions than answers, and generally want to understand just as much as I want to be understood.
These reasons I hesitated to share (who would want to listen to me, anyway?) have recently become the reasons I'm writing now – in a world of isolation and manufactured outrage, we desperately need authenticity.
I'm not here to be a guru or tell you my (non-existent) 17-step process for success. I'm here to do the things my soul loves more than anything:
- Creating space for real conversations and community
- Sharing the things, thoughts, and theories that make my life better
- Tackling things that are overwhelming, and breaking them down into small, actionable steps
My goal here is to write honestly, imperfectly, and often, to share words that are helpful, hopeful, and real.
If that's your jam, then welcome – I'm glad you're here. If you'd like to get these posts sent directly to your inbox, click here to subscribe. You can also find me on Instagram.
Until next time,
~ xoxo, Jamie
